El volcán Minamidake desata su furia por 142.ª vez en 2025; ceniza y rocas afectan amplias zonas del suroeste japonés
Una potente explosión sacudió este miércoles el cráter Minamidake, en el monte Sakurajima, a la 1:28 p. m. (hora local), expulsando una densa columna de ceniza que se elevó a más de 3.300 metros sobre el nivel del cráter. El fenómeno fue acompañado por la expulsión de grandes bloques de material volcánico que se dispersaron en un radio de hasta un kilómetro, alcanzando incluso zonas cercanas a la séptima estación del monte.
Los vientos arrastraron la ceniza en dirección noroeste, provocando una notoria caída sobre la ciudad de Kagoshima, en particular en el distrito de Yoshino. Para las 7:00 p. m., una gruesa capa ya cubría gran parte de Sakurajima y se prevé que el polvo volcánico llegue hasta Amakusa, en la prefectura de Kumamoto.
Este nuevo episodio forma parte de una intensa actividad eruptiva registrada durante el año: se trata de la erupción explosiva número 142 del Sakurajima en lo que va de 2025.
